Hotel Review: Crowne Plaza Copenhagen

Crowne Plaza Copenhagen

While in Copenhagen I stayed in the Crowne Plaza hotel, and like everything else in Scandinavia it is expensive. I had booked this hotel on points but once the IHG “Into The Night” promo came along I decided I want to take part in it so I changed it to a cash booking. The price was high and I think it is the highest hotel price I have paid in a very loooooong time. However hopefully I will receive my points and two free night certificates which will make it worthwhile.

The hotel is not in the city centre it is actually close to the airport and approximately 20 minutes to the city centre. The area around the hotel is still developing, there are some offices and a big shopping mall only two minutes away. The hotel offers a free shuttle bus service from the airport to the hotel and vice versa. It comes every 30 minutes in one of the stands outside the airport. I had to ask a very nice gentleman who pointed me to the right direction however I took a photo for you so you find it faster than I did.

Once you exit from Arrivals look for the Hotel Shuttle sign or the Information Desk, you need to take the exit next to the Information Desk and then just look for the third stop as shown in the photo below. The shuttle should arrive promptly and it has the Crown Plaza Logo so it is hard to miss it.

Hotel Check In:

We arrived in the hotel around 10 am and it was buzzing. I believe there was a conference on and also airline crew coming and going so it was busy. They told us that the room will be available at 2pm and if we would like they can store our baggage. It worked out better for us not having the rooms ready as I am sure I wouldn’t want to move once checked-in. So we stored our bags off we went exploring. The staff gave us tickets for the metro which were put on account. A nice touch as we didn’t have any Krone plus they gave us a list with the directions to the city centre and  back. On our return the hotel seemed quieter and we were checked in to King Deluxe Room on a high floor. They didn’t have any upgrade rooms as per my Platinum status but they did offer me free movies, free minibar and late check out. We did also have  lounge access as well for being Platinum and this is the case for every Platinum member whether they have a club room or not. I love lounges as it gives you a place to relax have a few snacks and see people without having to spend extra. The staff are friendly and polite and always smiling which makes such a big difference. The hotel is new and the lobby is quite interesting. They have made it as a big open space with the ability to see the largest solar panel above.

Room:

Our room was nicely appointed on a high floor just like I have stated in my preferences and we had a beautiful view. Even though the weather was not very welcoming I am amazed how flat this country actually is. 🙂 All rooms have a modern minimalist feeling which is the type of room I prefer, nice colours and a lovely comfortable chair next to the window. The minibar was well equipped with soft drinks which for some reason makes my husband extremely happy. I guess it saves us time to go down to the lounge. There were a few negative points that could be avoided. The big comfy chair had stains on it which weren’t very appealing. We only had one bathrobe which was worn out and no slippers. I have mentioned many times about slippers and that I never walk barefoot. For me it is not a  problem to call and request them, indeed they were delivered promptly but I always think of people who do not know that these items are complimentary. It would have been nice to have a list or a note with what is available as some other IHG properties have. I always recommend you wear slippers and never walk barefoot on the carpet. Just in case!

Bathroom:

The Bathroom is a nice size with a comfortable space for toiletries and a big bath which is a plus. My only comment for this will be that when you take a shower the protective glass is short so a lot of the water gets splashed outside making it slippery and potentially dangerous

The lounge:

The lounge was on the third floor and it required you to swipe your card to enter.Once you enter you are on the balcony and then just behind the wall you enter in the lounge area. I liked the fact that you had some work space outside in the balcony where you could work away from the noise of the actual lounge. I could see myself taking advantage of this if I was staying longer. The actual inside lounge is average size. On the Saturday evening it became quite busy and because of the way it is set up many couples had to sit with other people. The snacks were OK for a light pre dinner option they had cheese, some meat, nice bread and sauces. They have a nice balcony outside as well which during a sunny day would have been lovely to sit and relax.

Check out:

Check out was a bit slow but I think it was because many people were checking out at the same time and the Elite check out was not manned. However the free shuttle was waiting for us outside the entrance and we were on time to catch our flight back home.Overall I loved the hotel and most importantly the customer service. The staff are polite and always smiling. I liked the location, easy access to and from the airport and the metro is only one minute walk. Plus you have a mall if you find yourself with nothing better to do. The price was  £160 for the night which I consider high for a Crown Plaza, but the property is new and as we had lounge access it did save us money on dinner and breakfast. I would return to this property next time I am in Copenhagen.
